MISSION

The Academy for Technology and the Classics charter school seeks to provide a classical and technology-based approach to education. It is the intention of ATC that all students will actively participate in its instructional program, which is personalized to a variety of learning styles and individual strengths, enabling students to acquire the communication, literacy, thinking and personal skills necessary for a successful future. The school believes that the small school size and small class size give teachers an opportunity to address the individual needs of the students.

The school’s program sets higher academic standards by raising the graduation requirements and seeks to instill the “classic” moral values of respect, integrity, responsibility and honesty.

SIZE AND FUNCTIONALITY OF SITE

Academy for Technology and the Classics Charter School is located in a permanent building in the Rancho Viejo subdivision.

ATTENDANCE

Academy of Technology and the Classics Charter School is currently located in Rancho Viejo. Students may attend this charter school from throughout the district. Transportation is provided in the morning for students by either the middle or high school bus that services their area. The students are then shuttled to ATC. In the afternoon, three buses take the students home, since the bell schedule does not accommodate the district by shuttling students.

The following map shows the school and students located as of October 2009.

CURRENT AND FUTURE PROGRAMS

ATC offers programs for gifted education, and ASAP, Student Council, and Millionaire’s Club activities.

OPPORTUNITIES ANALYSIS

Since charter schools are structured differently than the Santa Fe Public Schools district schools, there are no recommendations. However, any legislative actions should be monitored that may require the district to house charters in district facilities and the contracts for each charter should be reviewed as soon as possible to determine the long-range success of each charter school and the feasibility of continuation.
