MISSION
The mission of El Dorado Elementary School is to educate each child in an environment in which staff, students and parents are unified in the pursuit and application of the following:• Skills to facilitate lifelong learning, critical thinking and communication
• An atmosphere that fosters responsibility, creativity, cooperation, and enthusiasm for learning
• Recognition of differences in students’ learning styles and provision of relevant learning opportunities
• Development of emotional, social, mental, and physical health of the students.
SIZE AND FUNCTIONALITY OF SITE
El Dorado Elementary School is located on 16 acres. The school was first opened in 1980 and had additions in 1983, 1987 and 2002. The total square footage is 60,363.INFRASTRUCTURE (ON-SITE AND OFF-SITE)
The school is located in a residential area at the corner of a major avenue and a secondary road. Cars back up along the road while queuing to drive into the parent loading drive. Sidewalks are needed along the road and should be extended along the parent pick-up lane. There are two parking areas, one functioning as parent drop-off/public parking, and the other as a bus loading/staff parking lot. The arrangement works well. The main playground area is dispersed and lacks adequate hard surfaces, shade and landscaping. The addition of some new play equipment is scheduled. The back side of the site has no landscaping. A wetlands sewage treatment system is not functioning well, with the recent drought. Drainage improvements are needed at the soft dirt area outside the multipurpose room and near the front entry. The community is involved with landscape/site improvement planning for the school. The soccer field is now astroturf and the general playground is updated and fenced. Kindergartners appear to share this playground. A second gymnasium is scheduled to replace a building to be demolished

BUILDING CAPACITIES
The following school building capacities are shown in the chart below:Design with portables (also called “building capacity”) is the generic enrollment average of PK to 8th grade students in a class times the number of classrooms in the school. The potential number of students per classroom is set by the minimum requirements for class size established by the New Mexico Public Education Department.
Program with portables (also called ''functional capacity'') is the generic enrollment average of PK to 8th grade students in a class times the number of classrooms in the school after the number of classrooms is reduced by subtracting rooms used for something other than general education times a loading factor of 95%.
Design without portables is the generic enrollment average of PK to 6th grade students in a class times the number of classrooms in the school if the school no longer has portables and if activities currently in portables are housed in permanent classrooms.
Program without portables is the generic enrollment average of PK to 6th grade students in a class times the number of classrooms in the school after the number of classrooms are reduced by subtracting rooms used for something other than general education and if all activities currently in portables are housed in a permanent classroom times a loading factor of 95%.
Enrollment 2010-11 40th Day is the number of students attending the school on the state reporting day of the 2010-11 school year.
Enrollment at El Dorado does not exceed its design or program capacity.
HISTORIC TRENDS AND PROJECTIONS FOR ENROLLMENT
Enrollment declined gradually most school years since 1998-99 at El Dorado Elementary School, even with continuing gradual build-out of the El Dorado community. Enrollment is expected to increase slowly to 2012, due to stable kindergarten classes and a large first grade in 2006-07.ATTENDANCE
El Dorado Elementary School is located off Highway 285 in the rural community of El Dorado. Students who live in El Dorado as well as Galisteo, Lamy, Glorieta, and any home off of Old Las Vegas Highway from the Highway 285 exit to the county line are assigned to the school. Due to the rural nature of the areas, most students are transported to school on 1 of 5 buses. Of the students living in the assignment area, 95% attend El Dorado Elementary School. Of the total number of students who attend the school, 90% are from the assignment area.See the following map.

RESIDENTIAL GROWTH PATTERNS
The recently approved Galisteo Village master plan is expected to yield a similar number of students per housing unit as El Dorado to its north. It may be several years before Galisteo Village begins residential construction.CHARACTERISTICS AND IMPACTS OF NEIGHBORHOOD AND COMMUNITY

No changes recommended, however, the Galisteo Basin project may have a future impact on this community.
A new K-8 grade configuration will be implemented for the 2008-09 school year.
